On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, prepare a healthy and nutritious Dhaniya Panjiri that is an easy prasad, which takes just 15 minutes from start to finish!
How can Janmashtami be complete without Dhaniya Panjiri? Dhaniya panjiri is an aromatic preparation of dry ingredients mixed to form a sweet naivedyam or prasad.
My mom-in-law is the one who introduced me to this simple and easy panjiri, and since then it has been a tradition in my house to have dhaniya panjiri on Janmashtami.
It’s a quick and straightforward prasad/offering prepared on Janmashtami, using ingredients that one always have in their pantry.

Regular panjiri also referred to as Dabra is an excellent winter treat. This super-food is prepared with ghee, wheat flour, semolina and loaded with chock-full of healthy nuts. It contains gluten, and that’s prohibited during fast/vrat.
Whereas, dhaniya panjeeri is prepared with coriander powder, sugar, and toasted nuts. It’s gluten-free and perfect as prasad/offering.
People who observe fast on Janmashtami can consume this panjiri throughout the day as specific grains/gluten are not allowed during fast/vrat.
NOW ONTO THE RECIPE!
Procedure to make dhaniya panjiri is pretty simple. Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan.
Add coriander powder to it. Cook coriander powder on low-medium heat until it starts emitting its aroma. Keep stirring as it gets burned easily. After it is well-roasted remove from flame and mix in rest of the ingredients, panjiri is ready.
Feel free to add nuts of your choice and adjust the sugar to your liking.
