Homemade gluten-free and vegan hummus recipe that will surely be a hit at your next gathering! Easy to assemble and packed with flavor! Spicy Chickpea Hummus Recipe

Spicy Chickpea Hummus RecipeAre you looking for a flavorful and healthy hummus recipe for your next party than this Spicy Chickpea Hummus Recipe is the one for you! A perfect party appetizer that comes together in just 10 minutes. For my upcoming get-together I was looking for a quick n easy starter recipe and spicy chickpea hummus recipe fits the bill. And when I say spicy, I mean it – it’s really hot!

I love the simplicity of this dish – no fancy ingredients and no techniques involved. Just toss all of the ingredients together in a blender and blend until you get a smooth and creamy hummus.

Classic hummus is prepared with 5 basic ingredients – chickpeas, lemon juice, garlic, tahini and salt. But feel free to play around with all kind of veggies and sprouts to make it more flavorful and nutritious – the possibilities are endless.

For a change, I have added bell pepper to my hummus. Bell pepper not only adds a chock-full of nutrition but it also imparts a deep rich color and an absolute amazing flavor to this hummus.

If you do not have Tahini on hand, no worries – use a few drops of sesame oil as a substitute. Or simply grind some white sesame seeds along with water, salt, lemon juice and olive oil into a smooth paste. Homemade Tahini sauce is ready, it’s that easy!

I started my recipe with freshly boiled chickpeas but store bought chickpeas can be used to save some time. Do not throw away the chickpea brine solution or boiled chickpea water – that’s the magic aquafaba. I have used aquafaba to make – vegan mayonnaise and spring roll wrappers. This liquid is a great egg replacement in some of the recipes.

Once hummus is ready, refrigerate it for an hour. It tastes delicious when cold.

What is the equivalent of sesame seeds paste to 1 tbs of tahini?

    • Ruchi says:

Anita, for 1 tablespoon Tahini paste – combine 2 teaspoon of roasted sesame seeds with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and salt. Blend into a fine paste. If needed add a few extra drops of olive oil to make a fine paste.
