Priest native language
Priest native language – Another masterpiece from Akbar and Birbal. Once Akbar’s court was visited by an renowned Pundit who was well versed in many languages. He challenged everybody in the court to guess his real mother tongue as he could answer questions in any language. Everyone in the court thought it to be an easy job and started asking him questions in every language they knew and to their surprise he answered them all. Nobody could guess his true mother tongue and pleaded their inability to judge his mother tongue.
He then addressed Emperor Akbar,”By tomorrow your courtier’s should tell me what is my mother tongue and if they failed to do so, I assume that I am superior than all your courtiers”.
After everyone failed Akbar asked Birbal to solve this problem. Birbal accepted the challenge and assured Akbar that by next morning he will solve this puzzle. Time was granted to Birbal & the durbar (social gathering) was dismissed. Will Birbal solve this one – Priest native language – keep reading.
That night Birbal went to Pundit’s house and entered his bedroom. When Pundit was fast asleep Birbal tickled his ear with hay (dry Grass) couple of times. Pundit’s sleep was disturbed, he turned to the other side and slept. Birbal repeatedly tickled his other ear. By now Pundit’s sleep was totally disrupted and he woke up shouting loudly, “Yevvurura Adi” (Who is that?) and seeing no one he went back to sleep. Birbal came out of his house unnoticed.
Next morning, the court assembled, and Pundit was also invited. Pundit again started in different languages, finally Birbal said that ‘TELUGU’ is the mother tongue of Pundit. Pundit was very much surprised at Birbal’s answer and he accepted his defeat and left the court. How did Birbal find out about – Priest native language – keep reading.
Akbar who was still in awe with Birbal’s answer inquired, how he found out the true mother tongue.
Birbal answered, “Jahan Pannah a man in distress will always speak his mother tongue. Pundit did the same thing when he was disturbed in his sleep”. He then narrated the happening of the previous night. Akbar praised Birbal for his timely wisdom.
