METHOD
  1. Assemble all the ingredients..
  2. And spices..
  3. Clean and wash rice thoroughly under cold water to remove all the dirt and grit. Set it aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan.
  5. Add cumin seeds.
  6. As the cumin seeds start to sputter..
  7. Pour in water..
  8. Add salt and cloves.
  9. Bring it to a boil.
  10. Add washed rice..
  11. Mix it well.
  12. Bring it to a boil.
  13. Boil till half of the water has evaporated and rice is clearly visible.
  14. Cover the pan and lower the heat. I like to “dum” steam cook my rice so I apply a cloth in between rice and the pan cover.
  15. Allow it to steam cook for 3-4 minutes on low flame. Take it off the flame and let it sit covered and undisturbed for 5-6 minutes.
  16. Fluffy jeera rice is ready. Enjoy it with your favorite dal or curry.
