But recently while working on a recipe I ran out of whipped cream so decided to make my own – Homemade Whipped Cream. When it comes to homemade I am all up for it, it’s fun, exciting and you learn something new.

Making whipped cream at home was extremely simple. Just two ingredients and your electric mixer, that’s all you need to whip up your very own whipped cream. Homemade Whipped CreamOnce you make your own, you will never buy it again from the local markets. Whipped cream can be prepared with a stand mixer, hand blender or even a simple whisk. It’s so much fun to watch a simple whipping cream getting transformed into something frothy and airy.

Before I started on my recipe, I chilled the bowl and blade (which I was using to whip up my recipe) in the refrigerator for an hour. Chilling the bowl and blades help the cream to whip up faster. Homemade Whipped Cream

How to check if the whipped cream has the right consistency

  • Blade marks (round circles formed by blade) in the cream will get thicker and denser.
  • Cream will double up in volume and thicken up.
  • Last an the most important one – remove the whisk/blender from the mixer/base. Hold it upside down and if the whipped cream maintains its soft peak firmly without falling off the blade (see pic below) – it’s ready to use and is perfect.

DO NOT OVER BEAT THE CREAM OR IT WILL RESULT IN HOMEMADE BUTTER.

Time mentioned below in the recipe is for stand mixer. Beating time will vary for hand blender and much longer for a manual whisk.

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup Heavy cream or whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon Cornstarch/Cornflour (stabilizing agent)
  • Few drops of Vanilla essence (optional)
CHANGE SERVING SIZE: CUPS

METHOD
  1. Assemble ingredients.
  2. Before you start, chill blade and bowl in the refrigerator for an hour.
  3. Pour heavy cream or whipping cream to the chilled bowl..
  4. Mix in sugar and cornflour. Cornflour/cornstarch helps whipped cream to holds its shape. It acts like a stabilizing agent.
  5. Turn the mixer or hand blender to a medium speed and start whipping the cream. Within 2- 3 minutes, the cream will start to get frothy and thicken up, keep mixing. All I need is a soft peak, so I whipped it for another 2-3 minutes and the whipped cream increased in volume and was very airy and thick.
  6. To check if the whipped cream has the right consistency - remove the whisk/blender from the mixer/base. Turn it upside down and if the whipped cream maintains its soft peak firmly without falling off the blade - it's ready to use and is perfect.
  7. Whipped cream is all ready. Place it in the refrigerator to chill.
  8. Put a dollop of whipped cream on fresh fruits and serve chilled.
  9. Top your favorite cake or pie with freshly homemade whipped cream and enjoy!

    For preparing homemade whipped cream, you are using whipping cream from market. Instead, can I use malai that forms at the top after cooling boiled whole fat milk?

      Sure you can. Whip malai until smooth.
      Add a teaspoon of cornflour while whipping malai, this will help whipped cream to hold its shape.

    Mam i have poured powdered sugar and amul fresh cream 25%fat (without putting in fridge for 4 hrs)in a juicer mixer and blend it but it is not whipped.Now what can i do?Please tell me

    Can I use the mixer grinder for making whipped cream by amul cream?

      You can use a blender to make whipped cream. Blend on High speed for 20-30 seconds until the cream thickens.

      This whipped cream is made from store bought cream. Please use store bought heavy liquid cream not homemade. Amul fresh cream works great for this recipe.

    Hi! I have normal Indian mixer . But it does have a whip option in it . However the blades are same of the Indian mixer ( which are used for any kind of Indian food grinding ). Can I use this mixer for making butter cream frosting/cream frosting .

      Nuzhath, are you talking about the hand blender/immersion? If yes, then my answer is a yes. You can use a hand blender to whip cream at home.

    I dont have blender ,I only have normal mixer grinder at home . Can I use that for making whipped cream?

      Yes Archana you can make whipped cream in a hand blender. If using a blender – add all the ingredients to a blender. Pulse on high speed for about 30 – 40 seconds or until the cream thickens.
      If using a hand blender or immersion blender – Put all ingredients in a large bowl. Whip with a hand mixer on high speed for 3-4 minutes or until cream thickens.

    Oster blender has a whip option, have tried whipping cream at home, comes out fine. I haven’t tried with an Indian blender.

    I purchased hand blender (Maharaja Whiteline Turbomix 350-Watt Hand Blender) as I was unaware of what to buy to whip cream. Once I tried in that but I was unable to make cream.. is it hand bender problem or can I use this hand blender to whip cream.. kindly help!!!!!

      Anu, any kind of blender will work to make cream. Add your ingredients, then move your blender up, down and around to make sure that all of the cream gets mixed. Beat until soft peaks are formed.

      You can prepare sour cream at home. To make sour cream at home – Take 1 cup of heavy cream, add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and start whisking it for 2-3 minutes. It will start to get thick and there you have it your very own homemade sour cream.
